Mademoiselle Kenopsia

A woman is obsessed with guarding and occupying anonymous interiors - devotedly, self-sacrificingly. As the guardian of these spaces and a ghostly presence, she becomes an echo of our relationship to time, loneliness, and the melancholy of forsaken places. "Mademoiselle Kenopsia" by Denis Côté ("Curling", "Vic+Flo Saw a Bear") is an unusual, contemplative film about loneliness, emptiness, and the melancholic atmosphere of abandoned places. At its center is a woman who guards seemingly meaningless interiors and, in doing so, becomes part of this abandoned world herself. With its tranquil imagery, minimalist narrative style, and deliberately pared-down plot, the film creates a hypnotic, at times oppressive atmosphere. Fans of experimental auteur cinema will find here a poetic reflection on isolation and transience. The film had its world premiere at the 76th Locarno Film Festival in 2023.
